1998 Iron Springs Diary
The second week

On Monday, after a nice clear night we awoke to a nice view of the ocean and no fog!

What a really nice way to close out August!

Around lunch time Ron and Peggy Ganzer, the pastor of Little Church on the Prairie, and their two children,

Rebecca, age 6 and Joshua, age 4
came to spend the afternoon.

We had forgotten how much energy kids that young have.

They were fun to watch while they scampered and played on the beach.

Later in the cottage they enjoyed taking digital pictures and displaying them almost instantly in the computer.
About the time Ron and Peggy were ready to leave the fog had again rolled in so heavy that it looked like smoke in the trees.
As it condensed in the trees it was almost like a light rain.  Does condensed fog qualify as precipitation?

Tuesday September 1st. Lynne is thrilled.  The kiddies are back in school and she doesn’t have to be here.   Gee, you’d think that we planned it that way.
It may have been a foggy, drippy day, but, we’re here, enjoying the beach and not at home in the 80 degree weather sweating out the first day of school.
Ain't retirement grand?

Jan could not contain herself, grabbed Dick’s camera and headed down the nature trail to potograph a nurse log she had found so now we have Jan’s nature pictures to add to the beach collection.

Monday was also a day of departures.
Mom's friends had to leave and later in the evening
Jan had to head back to the big town as well. The only good thing about folks heading home is that we were no longer banished to the other cottage.

On Wednesday we were surprised when Lynne's son Chuck drove in.

And as promised he drove the newly restored Mustang.  WOW!
(This is the car Lynne drove off the show room floor back in 1967)

Lynne was absolutely tickled...especially when he said that he could stay for the night.

Thursday September 3rd was our last full day at Iron Springs and it started our beautiful, nice and sunny and no fog.
Lynne and Chuck wasted no time hopping in the Mustang and heading out to the garage sales, and antique stores and had a ball.
Dick and Paul headed for Ocean Shores golf course to do the back nine they missed last week.  Although windy Dick reports that it was wonderful and the greens were perfect.

That last evening, true to our annual custom, we sailed our boats (little candles glowing in cut off milk cartons) down Boone Creek .
This year a strong breeze kept them from going further that the cliffs, but as usual it was fun to watch their flickering lights swirl in the eddies.

Friday the 4th. and it's back to civilization day.
Nothing too eventful about packing to end a vacation, but we decided to take the back roads seeking out garage sales as we went and that's where our return adventure began.
Everything was fine and we were having a ball, finding neat things and all, when, in the town of Elma we spotted a bright green sign that simply said, “Moving Sale” and there was an arrow so we turned and drove on.
And on, and on, and on.
Just when we were ready to turn around and go back, there was another bright green sign saying, “Moving Sale” and there was an arrow showing ahead, so we drove on, and on, and on.
Sure enough.  Just in the city limits of Shelton there was a moving sale.
Wouldn’t you just know it.  We had driven almost 30 mi. and all we found was baby clothes.

Arriving home late, we decided to simply go out for dinner and wouldn’t you know it, our favorite restaurant was serving prime rib dinners (our favorite) as a special.  What a pleasant way to cap off our vacation.
