My Duties with USS Marshal
Dec 1964 - Apr 1965

In Dec 1964 the USS Marshal was assigned as reserve ship in Tacoma and I served with the SelRes.

In Dec '64, I also was advanced to SN and was permitted to strike for STG.

During one drill weekend the ship visited Vancouver, BC.  In those days we all wore our uniforms while on liberty and the Canadians treated us well.  I had been to Canada many times before and since, but this time (although still in high school) I was a U.S. sailor on liberty in a forigen port. Wow!

We looked forward drill weekends that took us into Canadian waters so the they could sell sea store cigarettes in the ship's store which cost $1.10 per carton.
(Cigarettes in those days cost around $2.50 per carton and minimum wage was about $1.50 per hr)

I served with USS Marshal SelRes as a non-designated Sonar striker until I reported for active duty in Apr 1965.
