Tacking On Stripes
When a person advances in
rank, his seniors "congratulate" him by "tacking on the stripes.
"
Basically it is a hazing, hitting the new stripes or "tacking"
them onto the arm. Only a person's seniors are
allowed to do this.
Most people just tap the stripes and congratulate. Other
idiots try to hit really hard causing painful bruises.
